Overview

Bank ABC set out to modernize its operational backbone to support its ambition of becoming a leading international bank across the MENA region. With a strategic focus on building a high-performing, client-centric organization, the bank recognized the need to eliminate paper-based processes, reduce operational risk, and accelerate service delivery.

To achieve this, Bank ABC partnered with Sumerge to digitize and automate core banking processes using Enterprise Content Management and Business Process Automation solutions.

From Manual Workflows to Intelligent Automation

Several critical processes relied heavily on manual document handling, limiting visibility, increasing the risk of document loss, and delaying customer approvals.

Sumerge implemented a comprehensive Enterprise Content Management and workflow automation solution built on IBM Datacap, IBM Case Manager, and IBM FileNet. The platform enabled intelligent document capture, centralized archiving, metadata extraction, and automated workflows with minimal human intervention.

Three core banking processes were fully transformed:

Loan Origination

All financial calculations were automated and integrated directly with the Central Bank to access customer credit ratings in real time. This significantly accelerated approval cycles and provided full visibility into every request.

Account Opening

Manual document transfers between branches and head office were eliminated. Through seamless core banking integration, requests are now validated digitally, tracked instantly, and processed more efficiently.

Branch Operations Archiving

Physical document archiving was replaced with automated digital workflows, reducing workload, eliminating duplication, and ensuring secure, searchable record management.

Building a More Agile and Controlled Banking Model

By digitizing content and automating workflows, Bank ABC strengthened governance, reduced operational risk, and significantly improved service responsiveness. Employees gained real-time visibility into requests, while customers benefited from faster approvals and shorter waiting times.

This transformation established a scalable operational foundation that supports the bank’s long-term growth strategy and commitment to operational excellence.
