Overview

This case study is one of the Sumerge success stories in Microservices Transformation projects.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD), formerly known as Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) receives thousands of requests for services and programs every month. Tracking and processing those requests was a daunting task for MLSD. In other words, MLSD couldn’t support Saudi Citizens quickly and efficiently.
Sumerge recently partnered with MLSD to digitally transform how citizens and beneficiaries make use of social programs and benefits. In fact, Sumerge team streamlined and digitized 100% of MLSD social services allowing beneficiaries to make use of all services online. Consequently, citizens can request all services without the need to visit any branch. That’s why this project has a huge impact on thousands of citizens who are the most in need for social support.
Challenges
Initially, MLSD faced the following challenges:
- Inability to track the status of requests once entered
- The extensive amount of time processing each request
- Difficulty integrating with legacy system
- The sheer number of stakeholders
- Manual development of each application
Solution
Behind the scenes and to reach this digital transformation vision, we transformed the legacy existing platform to Microservices. Also, we made use of test automation and DevOps practices to be able to rollout new services quickly and efficiently. In addition, we reengineered the existing business processes, integrated with several internal and external entities to remove manual work and paper based transactions.
